Whitney Brothers’ new Convertible Desk for preschool and kindergarten classrooms recently received a 2017 Best of Year Honoree award from Interior Design magazine.
It was singled out by Interior Design’s editorial panelists because of the stylish and clever way the desk surface converts from a sitting height to standing height easily, securely and without the use of any tools. It adjusts from 22 inches to 29 inches in 1-1/4-inch increments – the ideal height range for preschool and kindergarten aged children.
The desk’s flexibility helps keep early learners engaged in classroom activities and promotes good posture.
“Our inspiration for the product arose from the idea that little learners should have access to the same ergonomic and health benefits that adult convertible-desk users enjoy,” said Mike Jablonski, president of Whitney Brothers.
Founded in 1904, Whitney Brothers pioneered the commercial distribution of wood furniture for early learning and institutional childcare through educational distributors and dealers. The furniture blends old world craftsmanship with state-of-the-art CNC manufacturing technology, and can be found in schools, childcare centers, Head Start facilities, churches, libraries, museums, and residential homes throughout North America and Europe. Each product is UL GREENGUARD Gold Certified, qualifies for LEED credits, meets or exceeds CPSIA, ASTM and BIFMA requirements, carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty, and is made in America.
Best of Year is the preeminent design awards program honoring the most significant projects and products of the year. In 2017, its 12th year, the program’s editorial panel received more than 2,300 entries in 113 categories from designers, architects and manufacturers from 50 different countries. Awards were announced on December 1 in a ceremony at the Frank Gehry-designed IAC Building in Manhattan.
